Refund Policy

We want you to love your MagineBook. If something goes wrong — AI wobble, shipping damage, or just a book that missed the mark — we try to make it right quickly. This page explains exactly how.

The short version

  • If we fail to generate your book, the refund is automatic — no request needed.
  • If the result has a real quality issue, we regenerate free or refund within 7 days of delivery.
  • Digital downloads that worked as intended are generally non-refundable (they are custom-made for your child).
  • Hardcover damage, loss, or non-delivery is replaced or refunded if reported within 14 days.

30-day satisfaction window

Within 30 days of your order, you can reach out to us for any concern — design issues, wrong name rendering, audio glitches, print problems — and we will work with you in good faith to fix it. Fixes usually take the form of a regeneration (for digital issues) or a replacement (for hardcover issues). Cash refunds are available when a fix is not possible or when you prefer one under the specific rules below.

Automatic refunds for failed generation

Sometimes an AI provider goes down or a job fails unrecoverably. If our system cannot deliver your book after its retry attempts, we issue a full automatic refund to the original payment method. You do not need to request it, and we send an email explaining what happened.

Quality-issue refunds and regenerations (7-day window)

If your book has a clear quality problem — garbled text, illustrations badly mismatched with the brief, missing pages, a corrupted PDF — email [email protected] within 7 days of delivery with your order ID and a short description. We will either regenerate the affected content for free or refund the digital portion of the order, your choice.

Successful digital downloads

Because each book is custom-made from your inputs, a successfully delivered digital PDF (or audio file) is generally non-refundable — similar to how other made-to-order personalized goods work. The 30-day satisfaction window and the 7-day quality-issue window above are the main exceptions. We will not refund simply because a gift-recipient's tastes differ from what you expected.

Hardcover books

Hardcovers are printed and fulfilled by our print partner. Because each book is printed to order with a unique child's name and photo, hardcovers are treated as custom-made goods and are not refundable once delivered successfully. However:

  • Damage in transit — send photos to [email protected] within 14 days of delivery and we will ship a free replacement.
  • Non-delivery — if tracking shows the parcel was not delivered within the expected window plus 14 days, we will reship or refund at your choice.
  • Print defects — misprints, binding failures, and colour issues beyond normal AI-illustration variance are replaced free.

What counts as a defect (and what does not)

AI-generated illustration has natural variation: a character's face may not be photographically identical to the uploaded photo, a stylistic choice may surprise you, or a colour may read slightly differently in print versus on screen. These are inherent to generative AI and are not considered defects. Missing pages, broken files, mistyped names, printing errors, and transit damage are defects and covered above.

Promo and discount codes

Refunds are calculated on the price you actually paid after discounts. Promo codes consumed on a refunded order are not re-issued unless the order was cancelled before generation started.

Processing time

Once approved, refunds are issued through our payment processor to the original payment method. Your bank usually posts the credit within 5–10 business days; a few international banks take longer. We have no control over the bank-side delay.

International orders

International refunds follow the same rules. Currency conversion differences between the original charge and the refund are determined by your bank and card network; MagineBook refunds the exact amount originally charged in the original currency.

How to request a refund

Email [email protected] from the address used on the order. Include:

  • Your order ID (starts with MB-).
  • A short description of the issue.
  • Photos or screenshots if the issue is visual.
